T h e completion of the second stage of the Art Building will allow the consolidation of the Department's facilities which are at present scattered in eight different buildings, and will release space urgently needed in Civil Engineering Hall, Lincoln Hall, and David Kinley Hall. Second Unit of Biology Building (Department of Zoology) 1. Size — 58,000 net square feet; 97,000 gross square feet 2. Space Net Sq. Ft. a. Present assigned space 32,906 b. Estimated deficiency for present program 3,500 c. Estimate of total additional space required through 1969 (includes ' b ' above) 16,917 d. Space to be vacated upon completion of project Location Net Sq. Ft. Proposed Reassignment Natural History Building 16,287 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Botany 3. Statement of Relative Urgency The needs of laboratory sciences are the most urgent and some are dangerously critical. If we assume new buildings for (1) College of Education (space then becomes available for Psychology) and (2) Plant Sciences and the remaining Agricultural space in Davenport Hall (this space assigned to Geology), Liberal Arts and Sciences needs these new buildings: (1) Completion of Biology Building (2) Chemistry Building The other needs can be cared for in reassigned space in (1) Davenport Hall (for Geology), (2) Gregory Hall, (3) West Noyes Laboratory, and (4) Natural History Building. a. T h e completion of the Plant Science first unit for Agronomy will vacate space in Davenport Hall which has been assigned to the Geology Department, the Liberal Arts and Sciences number one priority. b. Planning for Chemistry has been proposed and funds are requested which will enable the proposals for the Liberal Arts and Sciences number two priority in the 1961-63 biennium. c. Botany — Liberal Arts and Sciences number three priority will be provided for in the Natural History Building upon completion of the second unit of the Biology Building.
