building to June 30 of the first subsequent odd-numbered year and thereafter to be automatically renewed for successive two-year periods from July I of each odd-numbered year to June 30 of the next succeeding odd-numbered year unless sixty (60) days prior written notice of termination at the end of any one of said two year periods is given Foundation by this public corporation until said lease is finally terminated by the payment and liquidation of the above mentioned indebtedness; to commit this public corporation to act as agent for Foundation in the construction and equipping of said laundry building and in the administration and service of such indebtedness and the payments and disbursements from and of funds made available by the creditor of Foundation for the purpose of construction and equipping of said laundry building; to accept reconveyance of said property, including said building and equipment, from Foundation when Foundation's indebtedness has been retired as provided above; and to sign, execute, acknowledge, and deliver any and all other documents and instruments deemed necessary or desirable by said Comptroller and said Secretary to accomplish the purposes herein set forth. ASSIGNMENTS OF FUNDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACTS FOR NUCLEAR REACTOR (22) Bids received on a Nuclear Reactor and on construction of a building to house the equipment for the College of Engineering and the Engineering Experiment Station total $357,000 compared with an original estimate of $240,000. A grant of $150,000 from the Atomic Energy Commission is available for a portion of this cost. The Board of Trustees had previously assigned (May, 1958) $90,000 for the University's portion of the original estimated cost. T o finance the additional cost, the Vice-President and Provost and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend assignment of $28,000 from funds available to the University Research Board and $89,000 from accumulated collections for indirect costs on contract research. The Research Board has approved this assignment. If funds are thus made available, it is recommended that contracts be awarded to the lowest bidders as follows: Building construction — Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., Champaign $133 859 Reactor — General Atomic Division, General Dynamics Corporation, San Diego, California 171 010 Additional equipment 6 928 I concur in these recommendations. SEVERNS, SCHEELER, AND ASSOCIATES FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES (23) The University's contract with Richardson, Severns, Scheeler, and Associates, Champaign, Illinois, for architectural services on specific assignments expires August 1, 1959. T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the VicePresident and Comptroller recommend a new contract with this firm for the following services: Chicago Professional Colleges Estimated Cost Architectural studies for future buildings $20 000 Completion of studies and report on master plan. Review of program and relationship of proposed new buildings and remodeling of existing buildings.
