Accordingly, the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges recommends the appointment of Dr. Lis as Director of the Division of Services for Crippled Children, and Director of the Center for Handicapped Children in the Research and Educational Hospitals, effective August 1, 1959, and continuing until August 31, 1961, at an annual salary of $17,000 on full time and on a twelve-month per year service basis. This recommendation is supported by the Dean of the College of Medicine, the Medical Director of the Research and Educational Hospitals, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics, the supervisory professional staff of the Division of Services for Crippled Children, and is concurred in by the Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College. Dr. Lis will also continue to hold his position as Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the College of Medicine on indefinite tenure. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r s . W a t k i n s , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s a p p r o v e d . HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT (5) Professor M. J. Mandeville, Head of the Department of Management in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, has asked to be relieved of this administrative assignment at the end of the current academic year so that he may devote all of his time to teaching and research. T h e Dean of the College recommends approval of his request and the appointment of Stewart Y. McMullen, Professor of Business Administration at Northwestern University School of Business, as Professor of Management on indefinite tenure and Head of the Department of Management for two years beginning September 1, 1959, at a salary of $20,000 per year on "Y" basis. Members of the Department of Management of professorial rank and the Executive Committee of the College have been consulted and support this recommendation. The Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College concur. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . P o g u e , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s a p p r o v e d . HEADSHIP OF DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY (6) The Board of Trustees has authorized establishment of a new Department of Anthropology, formerly a part of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Pending the selection of a head of the new department, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recommends the appointment of Dr. Julian H . Steward, Research Professor of Anthropology, as Acting H e a d of the Department for one year beginning September 1, 1959. H e has recently been appointed to the Center for Advanced Study but is willing to accept the responsibility of the headship on the temporary basis. The recommendation is supported by the Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION A N D ASSISTANT DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE (7) The Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station recommends the appointment of Dr. R. W . Jugenheimer of the Department of Agronomy as Assistant Dean of the College of Agriculture and Assistant Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station, a new position in the College and Station, for two months beginning July 1, 1959, at an annual salary rate of $12,500, and reappointment at the same salary for two years from September 1, 1959, on "BY" basis. This is in addition to his present appointment as Professor of Plant Genetics on indefinite tenure. The Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College concur. Submitted herewith is a statement from the Dean and Director in support of the establishment of this new position and of Dr. Jugenheimer's appointment.
