tion to the Biology Building. Shaw, Metz, and Dolio are architects for the new Physics Building and have satisfactorily completed this assignment. The contractual relationships with these two firms has been discussed with the principals and the arrangements are acceptable to them. Their combined fee will not exceed the standard 6 per cent normally paid for architectural services. Nuclear Reactor Laboratory The firm of Richardson, Severns, Scheeler, and Associates, Champaign, to prepare preliminary studies and the firm of Clark, Daily, and Dietz, Urbana, for the engineering work. T h e Physical Plant Department will supervise the construction. The construction of this building will be financed by a grant of $150,000 from the Atomic Energy Commission, plus an appropriation of $95,000 made by the Board of Trustees in May, 1958. Richardson, Severns, Scheeler, and Associates will be paid on the basis of cost plus 75 per cent for overhead and commission; Clark, Daily, and Dietz will be paid on the basis of cost plus 100 per cent for overhead and commission, and will be reimbursed for other expenses incidental to the work. Widening and Repaving Green Street T h e city of Urbana has proposed that the widening and repaving of Green Street from Wright Street to Vine Street in Urbana be undertaken as a public improvement project and has asked the University to contribute its share of the cost for the improvement. T h e project is presently proposed for construction during the summer of 1959. T h e Committee on Buildings and Grounds has approved in principle the University's participation on the improvement of this street from W r i g h t Street to Lincoln Avenue, and recommends formal approval by the Board. T h e City has also requested the University to assume the responsibility for the preparation of plans and specifications for that portion of the improvement from W r i g h t Street to Lincoln Avenue. T h e Committee on Buildings and Grounds concurs in the recommendation that Clark, Daily, and Dietz, Urbana, be employed for this project on the basis of the standard minimum fees of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers and the Illinois Association of Consulting Engineers. It is estimated that the total cost of these engineering services will be approximately $22,000. Correction of Electrical Overloading in the First Unit of the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building Pioneer Service and Engineering Company, Chicago, for the engineering design of the transformer vault and distribution system to provide adequate electrical power supply t o this building and to eliminate the heavily overloaded condition now existing. This will replace equipment which is thirty years old and obsolete. The Pioneer Service and Engineering Company will be paid on the basis of salaries and wages of employees engaged directly in the work plus 75 per cent of salaries and reimbursement of expenses incurred by them on behalf of the project. It is estimated that the cost of this service will not exceed $30,000. F u n d s are available in the budget of the Physical Plant Department for Architectural Studies for Future Buildings.

On motion of Mr. Pogue, the foregoing recommendations were all approved.

CONSTRUCTION OF ASSEMBLY HALL

Mr. Pogue reported that the Committee on Buildings and Grounds on April 13, 1959, reviewed the model and a list of proposed omissions and revisions in the building construction contract for the Assembly Hall. These changes will reduce the lowest bid received on March 4, 1959, from $7,859,788 to $6,459,788. The proposed changes do not impair the design, reduce the seating capacity, or eliminate any of the functions for which the building was designed. No changes are proposed in the theater facilities.
