BEQUEST O F HENRY BASCOM THOMAS (24) T h e late Dr. H e n r y Bascom Thomas, who was Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the College of Medicine for many years and who died on March 25, 1958, bequeathed to the University $10,000 to endow a fellowship to be known as the "Dr. and Mrs. H e n r y Bascom (Louise) Thomas Fellowship" open to graduate medical students. I recommend acceptance of this bequest and adoption of the following resolution to comply with the requirements of the Northern Trust Company, executor of the estate. Resolution WHEREAS, H e n r y Bascom Thomas, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, departed this life on March 25, 1958, leaving a last will and testament which has been duly admitted to probate in Cook County, Illinois, and which contains provisions for a bequest as follows: "I give and bequeath to the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children, a department of the College of Medicine of the University of Illinois, located at 905 South Wolcott Street, Chicago, Illinois, the sum of T e n Thousand Dollars ($10,000) to be used for the purpose of endowing a permanent fellowship which is to he awarded periodically on a competitive examination basis, open to graduate medical students from approved medical schools in any part of the United States, who have selected orthopaedics as their field of specialization, and whose application for entrance to the competitive examinations has been approved by such member or members of the Orthopaedic Staff of the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children as may be appointed for this purpose by the Executive Officers of the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children. This bequest shall be held in trust and administered by the Executive Officers of the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children and by one representative of the Orthopaedic Staff, who may be selected and appointed for this purpose annually by the Executive Officers of the Illinois Surgical Institute for Children. This fellowship shall be known as the Dr. and Mrs. H e n r y Bascom (Louise) Thomas Fellowship." Now therefore be it resolved that the said bequest be and the same is hereby accepted by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for the said Illinois Surgical Institute for Children for the uses and purposes therein set forth and Be it further resolved that Howard A. Hazleton as Business Manager of the Chicago Professional Colleges of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois be and he is hereby authorized to accept payment on behalf of said Illinois Surgical Institute for Children of said bequest, and to execute and deliver to the Northern Trust Company as Executor of the Last Will and Testament of the said H e n r y Bascom Thomas, deceased, the receipt of the said corporation in satisfaction thereof.

On motion of Mr. Herrick, the foregoing resolution was adopted.

PURCHASES (25) T h e Director of Purchases has proposed and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommends the following purchases. Unless otherwise stated, the purchase in each case is recommended on the basis of lowest bid. I concur.
