BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES APPROVED

[February 19

The Secretary presented the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees on September 30, 1958, and October 23, 1958, press proof copies of which have previously been sent to the Board. On motion of Mrs. Holt, these minutes were approved as printed on pages JJ to 177, inclusive.

C H A N G E OF O R D E R OF BUSINESS

Mr. Johnston moved that the Board suspend the rules on the Order of Business to take up consideration of certain resolutions and a report of the Committee on General Policy; and this motion was adopted by a voice vote. Mrs. Watkins moved that Mr. Herrick be asked to take the Chair and to preside during the presentation of resolutions. This motion was adopted and Mr. Herrick took the Chair.

RESOLUTIONS

Mrs. Watkins offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: To Doris S. Holt

T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois gratefully records its warm appreciation for your faithful service as a member of this Board for the twelve years from 1047 to 1959. As Chairman of the Student Welfare and Activities Committee for twelve years you have given leadership to an important aspect of the Board's work and have done so with understanding and insight. You have made important contributions to the physical development and welfare of the University as a member of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds during your entire tenure. The University of Illinois is fortunate to have had the benefit of your competent and gracious service. T h e President and other administrative officers of the University desire to join the members of the Board of Trustees in this tribute and also in extending best wishes to you and Mr. Holt in the years to come. T h e Board directs that this resolution be incorporated in the minutes of today's meeting to become a part of the official record and that a suitable copy be given you as a permanent reminder of the esteem and affection in which you are held. Chicago, Illinois On the nineteenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-nine, and in the ninety-second year of the University.

Mr. Johnston offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

T o Cushman B. Bissell T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby expresses its grateful appreciation for your public-spirited and distinguished service as a member of this Board for the six years from 1953 to 1959. Your able contribution to the work of a number of committees is recognized and special commendation is noted for the leadership you have given to the Alumni and Patent Committees of which you served as Chairman. The keen discernment evident in your discussions of business before the Board and in directing attention to fundamental issues has been of great help to the Trustees in making policy decisions. It should also be noted that as a representative of this Board on the Board of Trustees of the University Retirement System of Illinois you had an especially useful role in bringing to this assignment your splendid legal and business background and your personal acumen. The President and other administrative officers of the University have indicated their desire to join the members of the Board of Trustees in this tribute and in extending to you and Mrs. Bissell their best wishes for the years ahead.
