REVISIONS IN THE PHYSICS C U R R I C U L U M IN LIBERAL ARTS A N D SCIENCES

(4) The Urbana Senate and the Senate Coordinating Council recommend the following changes in the physics curriculum of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. These changes are designed to drop the former two-hour course in hygiene, reduce the minimum hours required for graduation from 126 to 124, and rearrange the work in the curriculum in a way to produce a more evenly balanced load. Freshman year: Second semester, replace Mathematics 133 (three semester hours) with Mathematics 132 (five semester hours), both being first courses in calculus; discontinue Hygiene 101, Health Lectures (two semester hours). Sophomore year: First semester, replace Mathematics 143 (five semester hours) with Mathematics 142 (three semester hours), both being second courses in calculus. Junior year: First semester, replace eight semester hours of electives with four semester hours of electives. Senior year: First semester, replace seven semester hours of electives with ten semester hours of electives. Senior year: Second semester, replace ten semester hours of electives with eleven semester hours of electives. I concur. On motion of Mr. Johnston, this recommendation was approved.

REVISIONS IN T H E FLORICULTURE C U R R I C U L U M

(5) The Urbana Senate and the Senate Coordinating Council recommend adoption of a revised curriculum in floriculture which includes changing the name of the division and of the degree offered from "Floriculture" and "Bachelor of Science in Floriculture" to "Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture" and "Bachelor of Science in Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture" respectively, and increasing the number of hours required for graduation from 126 to 130 exclusive of the two years of required physical education. Most of the changes recommended are minor ones and the details are given in the attached report of the Committee on Educational Policy of the Urbana Senate, a copy of which is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I concur. On motion of M r s . Holt, this recommendation was approved.

WAGE RATES OF LABORATORY MECHANICS

(6) The Board of Trustees at its meeting on September 30, 1958, approved a procedure for the determination of wage rates for laboratory mechanics. The Director of Nonacademic Personnel reports that the procedure authorized has been followed and as a result the laboratory mechanics' group has been awarded an across-the-board adjustment of $10.00 a month, effective July 1, 1958. On motion of Mr. Swain, this a w a r d was confirmed.

REVISION OF PROGRAM FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSING

(7) A comprehensive program for the construction of student and staff housing at Urbana-Champaign during the period of 1957-63 was recommended to and approved by the Board of Trustees on January 28, 1956. In presenting this program the President stated that it would be subject to reappraisal and to revision in the light of such factors as new construction of private housing available and acceptable to students and staff in the local community and changes in enrollment projections which would affect the University's housing needs. A number of changes were recommended to and approved by the Committee on Buildings and Grounds at its meeting on December 17, 1958.
