Mr. Williamson, for the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, presented the following:

T h e University's building program for 1959-61 was approved by the Board of Trustees on July 29, 1958, for filing of estimates with the State Department of Finance of the appropriations required for the two years beginning July i, 1959. State law requires the filing of such estimates not later than November 1. The building program includes a provision of $3,500,000 for the acquisition of land for the relocation of the Chicago Undergraduate Division, subject to revision of this estimate after final selection of a site. T h e report of the Real Estate Research Corporation reduces to four the number of sites under consideration for the Chicago Undergraduate Division. Consultation as to cost and availability of the land necessary for a final selection can not be completed before January, 1959. Since the site decision can not be made until January, it is recommended that dollar estimates of site acquisition costs be excluded from the estimates to be filed with the State Department of Finance, with the statement that this figure will be submitted after final site selection has been made. It is the intention of the Board of Trustees that an estimate will be submitted in time to be included as a part of the regular budget request for capital expenditures for 1959-61.

On motion of Mr. Williamson, the building program for 1959-61 was amended accordingly.
