On motion of Mrs. Plumb, these recommendations were approved, and the plans and policies were authorized.

PURCHASE OF PROPERTY O N M A T H E W S AVENUE

(33) On April 25 a recommendation was made to the Board concerning a future land acquisition policy, in connection with which it was reported that the property at 306 South Mathews Avenue was for sale. T h e Board referred this to its Committee on Buildings and Grounds. I wish to report that this property has now been offered to the University only, at a price of $10,500, on condition that this offer is accepted before the end of May, after which the property will be offered on the general market.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this matter was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds.

RELEASE OF PATENTS ON DISCOVERIES BY MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY (34) T h e faculty Committee on Patents submits the following recommendations on several cases which have come to it for consideration: I. A synthetic detergent discovered by Dr. Charles C. Price of the Chemistry Department. T h e evidence before the Committee shows that the field of this discovery is highly competitive and that the discovery, even if patentable, would have practically little or no commercial value because the materials used are too costly. The Committee, therefore, recommends that the discovery be
