APPROPRIATION FOR BROWSING ROOM (17) A recommendation for an appropriation of $2,500 for books for the Browsing Room in the Illini Union Building was presented to the Board on November 24, but action was deferred until it was known if the fund which is being raised for equipment and furnishings would be sufficient to cover the cost of the books. It is evident that the equipment fund will not be sufficient to provide for all the equipment needed, and therefore I am renewing the recommendation for the purchase of books.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Pogue, Mrs. Plumb; absent, Mr. Cleary.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOUNDATION CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS (18) A report from the President of the University of Illinois Foundation of his activities in soliciting funds for the Illini Union Building.

This report was received for record.

IMPROVEMENTS IN DAIRY PLANT (19) P u r s u a n t to the instructions of the Board of Trustees at its meeting on April 25 (Minutes, page 914), I submit herewith a report, including estimates of costs, from the Department of Dairy Husbandry on improvements which should be made in the plant and equipment of that department before its product can be offered on the Grade A market. 1. Improvements which should be made as soon as possible: P u r e bred barn $ 2 230 West round barn 6 225 Creamery 2 650 Total $11 105 The H e a d of the Department is of the opinion that, if the above improvements are made, there will be no difficulty in getting approval to sell University milk under the Grade A label. However, it may be necessary at some future time to make additional improvements in order to retain such approval, and therefore the Department and the Dean recommend: 2. Permanent improvements to complete pure bred barn and creamery during 1941-1943: P u r e bred barn (completion) $45 000 Creamery (new floors) 12 500 Total $57 500 I recommend that an appropriation of $11,105, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made from the General Reserve Fund for the first group of improvements. T h e second group may be considered in connection with the budget for the next biennium.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, this appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Pogue, Mrs. Plumb; absent, Mr. Cleary.

'Colvin total, $3,250. 'Stephens total, $4,800.
