EXTENSION OF COMPLETION DATE FOR 1LL1NI U N I O N BUILDING (27) T h e Board of Trustees at its meeting on February 16 (Minutes, page 752) authorized an application to the Federal W o r k s Agency for an extension of time for the completion of the Mini Union Building to August 22, 1940. Since another two weeks will be required due to the failure of the original subcontractor for mill work and cabinet work to carry out his contract and the consequent transfer of this work to another subcontractor, I recommend that the Board of Trustees hereby request the Federal W o r k s Agency to extend the completion date of the Illini Union Building to September 5, 1940.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, the Federal Works Agency was requested to grant this extension, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Cleary, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Karraker, Mr. Mayer, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Moschel, Mr. Pogue; no, none; absent, Mr. Adams, Mr. Horner, Mrs. Plumb, Mr. Wieland.

G R E G O R Y HALL CONTRACT C H A N G E O R D E R

(28) On February 16 (Minutes, page 751), the Board authorized Change Order No. 16 on the contract with the W. E. O'Neil Construction Company for the general work on Gregory Hall calling for the omission of painting and asphalt tile on the ground floor, with a net reduction of $1,271.92 for these items. At that time the Board was informed it might be advisable to reinstate these items later. T h e Director of the Physical Plant Department is now assured that sufficient funds will be available and recommends reinstatement of these items.

On motion of Mr. Moschel, the reinstatement of these items was authorized, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Cleary, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Karraker, Mr. Mayer, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Moschel, Mr. Pogue; no, none; absent, Mr. Adams, Mr. Horner, Mrs. Plumb, Mr. Wieland.

CONTRACT CHANGE ORDERS ON P.W.A. PROJECTS (29) In accordance with the authorization of the Board of Trustees, I have approved the following contract change orders and request confirmation of such approval. Gregory Hall Change Order No. 17, contract with the W . E. O'Neil Construction Company for General Work. (1) Omit painting on plaster in room # 4 3 7 — D e d u c t . . $ 20 50 (2) F o r acceptance of slate base and stools with "ribbons" of width greater than approved sample— Deduct 25 00 (3) Omit wire mesh in cement base under ceramic tile floors as provided for under P a r a g r a p h #18005 of the specifications—Deduct 56 00 $101 50 (4) Installation of furred ceilings between girders and east walls of Rooms # 2 2 5 and #321—Add 33 60 Net Credit $67 90 Change O r d e r No. 5, contract with Robert Gordon, Inc., for the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Work. This change order is to cover additional cost involved in changing copper for exterior exposed surfaces used in construction of louvres for fresh air intakes through window frames from plain to lead coated
