AGREEMENTS FOR COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATIONS (20) A recommendation that the following agreements for cooperative investigations be authorized: 1. Agreement with the Institute of Boiler and Radiator Manufacturers for conducting of investigations, experimental and research work relating to the heating and ventilating of houses and buildings. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of three years, beginning January 2, 1040, with provisions for its extension upon mutual consent, and the Institute has agreed to provide funds for the expenses of the work as follows: March 1, 1940 $12 000 July 1, 1940 6 000 September 1, 1940 6 000 and for each of the years 1941 and 1942, the sum of $10,000, payable quarterly. The agreement provides for the construction upon premises located conveniently near the University of a house 1 in which some of the investigations shall be conducted, the title to such property to be in the Institute. T h e agreement conforms to the general policies and statutory provisions of the University relating to such investigations. 2. Extension of agreement with the National W a r m Air Heating and Air Conditioning Association for an investigation of " W a r m Air Furnaces and Furnace Heating Systems" by the Engineering Experiment Station for one year from April 1, 1940. T h e Association agrees to contribute $5,000 for the expenses of this investigation during that period.

On motion of Mr. Moschel, the officers of the Board were authorized to execute these agreements.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (21) A recommendation that t h e following purchases be authorized, the award in each case being to the lowest bidder: 1. Rental of academic costume, for the use of candidates for degrees to be conferred at the 1940 Commencement exercises, from the Collegiate Cap and Gown Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder on the basis of specifications, at a total cost of approximately $2,100. (Another concern, Cotrell & Leonard, Albany, New York, submitted lower quotations but proposed to supply the costume in a material which does not conform t o specifications and is not considered suitable.) 2. T w o Vacuum Return Line Heating Pumps, from the Mid-State Engineering Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, at a price of $2,770 f.o.b. Urbana. ( A lower bid of $2,466 was received from the Chicago Pump Com'This house will be constructed by a trustee for the Institute and will serve the same purpose for studies of steam and hot water heating as the house now used for furnace heating in the National Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Association investigation.
