(b) Covering the use and occupancy of certain specific tracts on the Dixon Springs Project until November I, 1939. 3. Aluminum Company of America and the Pennsylvania Salt Manufacturing Company—• Study of the physiological effects of fluorine with particular reference to the use of fluorine insecticides in the spraying of fruits and vegetables. This investigation is to be conducted by the Agricultural Experiment Station. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of one year beginning July 1, 1939, with provisions for its extension upon mutual agreement. T h e Companies agree to contribute $i,7S0 each, or a total of $3,500, to cover the expenses of this work. 4. DeKalb Agricultural Association, Inc.— Study of the development of medium and long-season hybrids with special reference to insect resistance. This investigation is to be conducted by the Agricultural Experiment Station. T h e agreement is drawn for a period of one year beginning June 1, 1939, with provisions for its extension upon mutual agreement. T h e association agrees to contribute $900 to cover the expenses of this work. 5. General Foods Corporation— Extension of agreement for studies of improvement of white corn by breeding. T h e agreement is drawn for the period ending May 31, 1940. The corporation agrees to increase their financial contribution from $900 to $1,200 a year. 6. American D r y Milk Institute— Extension of agreement for the study of the utilization by animals of the calcium of whole milk and of liquid and dried skim milk, and their values as sources of calcium foods. T h e agreement is drawn for the period of one year beginning July I, 1939. T h e Institute agrees to contribute an additional $6,300 for this investigation.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, the action of the President of the University in authorizing these agreements was approved and confirmed.

LEASE OF FORMER PRESIDENT'S HOUSE ON NEVADA STREET (37) By authority of the Board of Trustees the house at 1203 West Nevada Street, Urbana, has been leased to Dr. David Kinley, President Emeritus, since December 1, 1931. T h e present lease expires August 31, 1939. Doctor Kinley desires to renew the lease on a year-to-year basis under the present terms. O n m o t i o n of M r . BRITISH LETTERS PATENT ON PROCESS FOR RECOVERING SULFUR DIOXIDE FROM WASTE GASES (38) T h e Secretary of the Board of Trustees reports the receipt of British Letters Patent No. 501,840, dated March 24, 1937, corresponding to the United States application of Johnstone and Singh, U. S. Case 4, Serial No. 132,692, covering a process of recovering sulfur dioxide from waste gases. T h e Letters Patent have been granted subject to the following conditions and regulations: "The Patent is granted for a term ending June I, 1953, subject to payment of taxes. The fifth year's tax becomes due March 24, 1041, and taxes are due annually thereafter on March 24. If actual manufacture is not carried on in Great Britain by March 24, 1941, the patent should be worked nominally, according to advice of patent counsel. "Patent marking is required and the following should be used: Patent No. 501,840, 1937." T h e taxes or renewal fees alluded to begin at £$ in 1941 and increase £1 each year to a maximum of £16 at the sixteenth year and after. By endorsing this patent "Licenses of Right," one-half the fees may be avoided. T h e r e is a penalty of £2 a month for late payment. T h i s report w a s received for record.
