Masters and Certificate of Advanced Study Degree Programs, Department of Secondary Education, Urbana (Review of Programs upon Request of the Board of Higher Education)

(35) On April 5, 1983, the Board of Higher Education advised the Board of Trustees that the Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Education, and Certificate of Advanced Study programs, offered through the Department of Secondary Education at the Urbana-Champaign campus, are no longer "educationally and economically justified.3" A careful review, undertaken by campus and University offices, revealed several pertinent facts: Extensive internal evaluations, made as a part of the COPE process, indicate that since 1976 the quality of the programs has improved. Over the past few years, a series of courses designed to help classroom teachers
