Head, Department of Ecology, Ethology and Evolution, Urbana

(8) T h e chancellor at Urbana-Champaign, after consultation with the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has recommended the appointment of Dr. George O . Batzli, presently professor of ecology, ethology and evolution and acting head of the department, as head of the Department of Ecology, Ethology and Evolution beginning April 21, 1983, on an academic year service basis at an annual salary of $42,790. Dr. Batzli will continue to hold the rank of professor on indefinite tenure. He has been acting head effective second semester of the current academic year and succeeds Dr. Edwin M. Banks who relinquished the headship because of illness. T h e nomination is made with the advice of a search committee* and after consultation with faculty members of the department. T h e director and Executive Committee of the School of Life Sciences and the Executive Committee of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences endorse this recommendation. T h e vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

On motion of Dr. Donoghue, this appointment was approved. Head, Department of Geology, Urbana

(9) T h e chancellor at Urbana-Champaign, after consultation with the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has recommended the appointment of Dr. David E. Anderson, presently professor of geology, as head of the Department of Geology beginning August 2 1 , 1983, on an academic year service basis at an annual salary of $36,440. Dr. Anderson will continue to hold the rank of professor on indefinite tenure. He will succeed Professor John Hower who asked to be relieved of this administrative assignment. T h e nomination is made with the advice of a search committee 3 and after consultation with faculty members of the department. T h e Executive Committee of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences endorses this recommendation. T h e vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.
