BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Dr. Griffith will succeed Dr. David I. Abramson who retired from the headship in 1972. Dr. Constance Schwab has been serving as acting head. This recommendation is made with the advice of a search committee1 and after consultation with the members of the department. The vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Howard, this appointment was approved.

Head, Department of Horticulture, Urbana

(8) The chancellor at Urbana-Champaign, after consultation with the dean of the College of Agriculture, has recommended the appointment of David B. Dickinson, Jr., presendy professor of plant physiology and plant biology and acting head of the Department of Horticulture, as head of the Department of Horticulture, beginning February 21, 1986, on a twelve-month service basis at an annual salary of $65,000. Dr. Dickinson will continue to hold the rank of professor on indefinite tenure. He will succeed William L. George, Jr., who left the headship to become associate dean and director of Resident Instruction in the College of Agriculture. The nomination is made on the recommendation of a search committee' and after consultation with members of the faculty of the department. The vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . H o w a r d , this a p p o i n t m e n t was approved.

Chairperson, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, College of Medicine, Peoria

(9) The chancellor at Chicago has recommended the appointment of Thomas L. Gross, M.D., currently associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, as associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology on indefinite tenure and chairperson of the department at the College of Medicine at Peoria beginning July 1, 1986. He will serve on a twelvemonth service basis at an annual salary of $125,000. Dr. Gross will be the first permanent chairperson of the department since it was established in 1974. The recommendation is made with the advice of a consultative committee* and after consultation with the faculty of the department. The vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Howard, this appointment was approved.
