T h e salaries recommended for summer session appointments are computed on the basis of the standard formula: two-ninths of the salary of the academic year for the full period of the session (eight weeks) with proportionate amounts for shorter periods or for part-time service. T h e acting vice president for academic affairs and the vice president for business and finance concur in the recommendation. Accordingly, I recommend that the appointments to the staff for the summer sessions be approved as submitted; and that the president of the University be authorized to accept resignations, to approve additional appointments, and to make such other changes as are necessary to meet the needs of the 1988 summer sessions within the total allocation of funds indicated. O n motion of Miss Smith, these appointments and the summer session budgets for Chicago and Urbana-Champaign for 1988 were approved and authority was given as requested. This action was taken by the following vote: Aye, Mrs. Calder, M r . Forsyth, Mrs. Gravenhorst. M r . H a h n , M r . Howard, M r . Logan, Mrs. Shepherd, Miss Smith, M r . Wolff; no, n o n e ; absent, Governor Thompson. ( T h e student advisory vote was: Aye, M r . Evenson, M r . Wylie; no, none.) By consensus, the board agreed that one vote would be taken and considered the vote on each agenda item nos. 3 through 14 inclusive. T h e recommendations were individually discussed but acted upon at one time. ( T h e record of board action appears at t h e end of each item.) Award of Certified Public Accountant Certificates (3) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of certified public accountant be awarded under Section 5 of the Illinois Public Accounting Act of 1983 to twenty candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked certified public accountant certificates obtained by passing the uniform written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law. T h e names of the candidates are filed with the secretary. T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of certified public acountant be awarded to 963 candidates who passed the uniform written examination on November 4, 5, and 6, 1987, in Illinois and who have fulfilled all other legal requirements under Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Illinois Public Accounting Act of 1983. T h e names of the candidates are filed with the secretary. I concur in these recommendations. O n motion of M r . Wolff, these certificates were awarded. Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Chicago (4) T h e chancellor at the Chicago campus has recommended the appointment of Dr. Louise Ano Nuevo Kerr as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs (undergraduate student development); and associate professor of history on indefinite tenure, beginning August 1, 1988, on a twelve-month service basis, at an annual salary of $75,000. In this newly created position, the associate vice chancellor will work closely with the vice chancellor for academic affairs in the review of the quality of undergraduate programs. This entails the development and coordination of the enrollment management program and direct oversight of the campus support programs.
