GIFT OF MR. AND MRS. MERLE J . TREES (45) In accordance with the general offer of November 29, 1937, which was presented to the Board on December 3, and in accordance with the terms of the resolution of the Executive Committee of the Board adopted on December 18, accepting this offer, in the terms of which resolution Mr. and Mrs. Merle J. Trees have formally indicated their concurrence, they have presented the following paintings for the year 1937: Painting Valuation School of Holbein "An English Lady" $ 7 500 00 Mabuse "Portrait of Thierry of Ligne" 8 000 00 Jacque

The valuation indicated in each case is based on an appraisal made by the late Robert B. Harshe, Director of the Art Institute of Chicago, on December 28, I937These paintings have been accepted and now become the property of the University, but in accordance with the provisions of the resolution of the Executive Committee adopted December 18, 1937, Mr. Trees has been requested to keep them in his custody until such time as the University is ready to display them. In the meantime, the University has insured them at their appraised value at a premium rate of $54.96 a year.
