MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT WILLARD

The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

ADMISSION TO S C H O O L OF JOURNALISM (1) For admission to the School of Journalism as a candidate for a degree an applicant must be able to matriculate in the University and must have had in addition 60 semester hours (the equivalent of two years) of undergraduate college work. There is no grade requirement. T h e University Senate recommends that the requirement for admission be changed to "60 semester hours of undergraduate work with a C average in an established curriculum of an undergraduate college," this to become effective September I, 1938.

On motion of Mr. Pogue, this requirement was adopted as recommended.

ADMISSION TO COURSES IN CHEMISTRY (2) On July 16, 1937 (Minutes, page 305), the Board adopted a recommendation from the Senate Committee on Educational Policy (later confirmed by the University Senate) that with certain exceptions registration in courses in chemistry above the freshman year be restricted to students having a certain scholastic average in all previous University courses. This restriction was applied only to the first semester of 1937-1938 pending further study. T h e Department of Chemistry, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the University Senate have given further consideration to this matter and the Senate now recommends that the requirement be continued for the second semester of 1937-1938. O n m o t i o n of M r . M o s c h e l , t h i s r e q u i r e m e n t w a s c o n t i n u e d a s recommended. LABORATORY FEES (3) A recommendation that the following laboratory fees be authorized: Chemistry 69b $15.00 Physical Education for W o m e n 73 3.50

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these fees were authorized as recommended.

RULES CONCERNING THE REVOCATION OF THE CERTIFICATE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (4) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the Board of Trustees adopt certain rules of procedure to supplement existing regulations governing the administration of the law relating to Certified Public Accountants. T h e following resolution is offered: W H E R E A S , T h e following rules, concerning the revocation of certificates of certified public accountants issued by the University of Illinois under an Act of the General Assembly of Illinois to regulate the profession of public accountants, approved May 15, 1903, as amended, embody and codify the practice and procedure followed by the University since the enactment of the statute above mentioned in relation to the subject dealt with therein: Section 1. Who may file charges; the petition. Any person may file a verified petition for the revocation of a certificate against an accountant who has been certified by the University of Illinois under an Act to regulate the profession of Public Accountants approved May 15, 1903, as amended. Such petition shall contain a concise statement of the alleged grounds of revocation. Section 2. Grounds of revocation. No certificate shall be revoked except for unprofessional conduct or other sufficient cause. "Other sufficient cause," as used herein, shall include, without excluding other grounds, conviction in a State or Federal Court of record of a crime involving moral turpitude, or forfeiture, or suspension, by action of public
