[May

13

The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

BIENNIAL BUDGET FOR 1 9 3 7 - 1 9 3 9 (i) The Board of Trustees at its meeting on May 3 voted to make a reduction of $1,250,000 in the University's budget for the biennium of 1937-1939, as originally approved by the Board on October 26, 1936, and submitted to the State Department of Finance on November I, 1936, and instructed the President of the University to recommend how this reduction should be made. After conferring with the University Council, which under the University Statutes advises the President in the preparation of annual and biennial budgets, the following distribution of the reductions is submitted for consideration by the Board. The Council and the President are still of the opinion t h a t these reductions, or any other reductions, will create difficult problems of administration, result in diminished educational service to the student body, and will damage the prestige of the University, but they are submitted in view of the instructions of the Board.
