E. Hish for four years from September 18, 1931 This report w a s received for record. APPROVAL OF VARIOUS PURCHASES (18) A report of the approval of the following purchases, amounting to $1,000 or over, since the last report was made to the Board: 1. T w o rail-testing machines, built to specifications prepared by Professor H. F. Moore, from J. B. Hayes Machine Company of Urbana, at a price of $3525.00, to be charged to the gift fund for rails investigation. (Minutes, March 12, 1031, page 187.) 2. Thirty cars nut coal (Danville District) from Electric Coal Company, Chicago, at a price of $1.50 per ton, f. o. b. Mines, to be charged to the Coal Storage Appropriation of the Physical Plant. This report w a s received for record. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE SYSTEM (19) A proposal from Automatic Electric, Inc. for the installation of a new automatic telephone system to replace the present University intercommunicating system. The total cost of this equipment, including the installation of the switchboard (but not the instruments), is $33,800. The company will allow $5,800 for the present automatic switchboard and telephones making the net cost $28,000. The University's end of the work would cost up to $3,000 so that the total net cost of the new system would be $31,000. O n motion of M r . Barrett, this report w a s received for record and no action w a s taken. ARCHITECTURAL FEES FOR MEDICAL AND DENTAL L A B O R A T O R I E S BUILDING (20) The Supervising Architect submits: 1. A statement from Granger & Bollenbacher of the balance of $25,200 due for professional services rendered in preparation of preliminary sketches, work drawings, and specifications for the Medical and Dental Laboratories Building. 2. A letter from Granger & Bollenbacher requesting authority to proceed with the full size detailing of the plans for the second unit of the Medical and Dental Laboratories Building. Under their contract the architects are entitled to three-fifths of their fee when the contract plans are completed. Although this fee is not usually paid until the contract has been awarded, in this case the architects are not responsible for the delay and the payment is due. The Supervising Architect recommends payment of the balance of $25,200 to them, this payment to be made from the appropriation for the second unit of this building. O n motion of D r . Noble, it w a s voted to approve p a y m e n t of this bill and to incur n o further expense o n this project until further notice. FEBRUARY DEGREES (20) A request for authority to confer degrees on those candidates who will be recommended by the University Senate at its meeting on February 1, the list to be included in the minutes for February. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this authority was granted. PATENTS M r .
