Illinois Public Service Company,fiveper cent, at an estimated price of 101 or better. It was impossible to get the Alabama Power Company bonds at the price authorized and to avoid any further loss of interest the Chairman of the Finance Committee purchased 84,500 of Central Illinois Public Service Company,firstand refunding, five per cent bonds, due M a y 1, 1956; $4,000 of these bonds were purchased at loiyi and $500 at ioiXO n motion of M r . Trees, the action of the Finance C o m m i t t e e w a s approved.

BOILER EQUIPMENT FOR MEDICAL BUILDING

(22) A request that a hearing be granted to Dr. Worthington and Mr. Snider, on the boiler equipment for the new Medical buildings. This hearing w a s granted, a n d D r . Worthington and M r . Snider m a d e statements a n d withdrew.

DEATH BENEFIT, PROFESSOR H. A. HOLLISTER

(23) Professor H. A. Hollister, High School Visitor and Professor of Education, Emeritus, died yesterday morning. I recommend that an appropriation of twelve hundred dollars be made from the Reserve and Contingent fund for the death benefit, and that the Comptroller be authorized to pay the death benefit to Professor Hollister's designated beneficiary. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this authority w a s granted and the appropriation w a s m a d e , b y the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, D r . Noble, M r . Trees, M r . Williams; no, none; absent, M r . Barrett, M r . Blair, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r s . Hopkins.

SETTLEMENT OF ILLINOIS TERMINAL SYSTEM OF REPARATIONS O N ACCOUNT OF EXCESSIVE COAL FREIGHT RATES

(24) A proposal from the Illinois Terminal System for a settlement of the University's claim against i under the order of the Illinois Commerce Commission in the matter t of reparations on account of excessive coal freight rates. O n motion of M r . Williams, this settlement w a s approved as recommended.

IMPROVEMENTS IN DeWITT HOUSE

(25) A letter from Professor White: July 23, 1931 President H. W. Chase, 35'5 Administration ( W ) Dear President Chase: At the meeting of the Board of Trustees on M a y 14, 1931, an appropriation of $13,000 from the Woman's Residence Hall Reserve was made for the purchase of the DeWitt property at 1207 West Springfield Avenue, Urbana, to be used as a girls' cooperative house. Mrs. Evans approved certain improvements and remodeling in the house which will cost $1500. I have ordered this work to be done and am charging i to the same t funds from which the appropriation was made for the purchase of the property. If i is not proper to charge this remodeling work to the Woman's Residence Hall t Reserve, I shall be glad to have the Board instruct m e as to what fund it should be charged. Very truly yours,
