BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The following members were present: President Barr, Mr. Armstrong, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Grigsby, Dr. Noble, Mr. Simpson, Mr. Trees. President Chase was present; also Dean D. J. Davis, Professor W . F. Petersen, and Professor H. D. Singer. RELATIONS W I T H D E P A R T M E N T O F PUBLIC W E L F A R E Mr. Barr stated that the purpose of the meeting was to consider the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry and their relation to the State Department of Public Welfare. The Secretary read a portion of the minutes of M a y 17, 1929 (page 198), authorizing an amendment to the existing contract with the Department of Public Welfare. President Barr read a letter from President Kinley to Dean Davis, announcing his appointment of Dean Davis and Professors Petersen and Singer as members of the committee provided for in the amendment mentioned above. O n request of President Chase, Dean Davis made a statement reporting in detail the progress of the committee. O n motion of Mr. Armstrong, the committee was requested to continue its work and to report its progress to the President of the University. FACULTY C O M M I T T E E O N PATENTS President Chase presented the following report of the Committee on Patents: The Committee on Patents recommends that a patent committee be appointed from the faculty of the University to serve as a working committee and to confer regarding matters of policy with the Committee on Patents of the Board of Trustees. W. L. Noble J. W. Armstrong Walter T. Fisher O n motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was adopted. S U R V E Y O F R O O M I N G CONDITIONS O n motion of Mrs. Blake, the President of the University was requested to make a survey of the conditions under which the m e n students of the University are living, and to report to the Board. O n motion of Mrs. Blake, an appropriation of $2000, or so much thereof as m a y be necessary, was made from the Reserve and Contingent fund, to meet the expense of this survey. The Board adjourned.
