BIDS ON ELEVATORS FOR NEW BUILDINGS (5) The Supervising Architect reports that bids on elevators for the third unit of the Library, the Materials Testing Laboratory, and the addition to Lincoln Hall were opened on August 20, Mrs. Evans of the Board being present, and submits the following schedules of bids: LINCOLN HALL ADDITION Bidders Bids Montgomery Elevator Company $7 369 00' Otis Elevator Company 4 980 oo! MATERIALS TESTING LABORATORY ELEVATOR Bidders Bids Montgomery Elevator Company $3 810 oo1 Otis Elevator Company 3 600 oo: LIBRARY ADDITION NUMBER THREE Bidders Bids Montgomery Elevator Company $7 734 oo1 Otis Elevator Company 7 500 oo* O n motion of Mr. Trees, the contracts for these elevators were awarded to the Otis Elevator Company, the lowest bidders. DEATH BENEFIT—PROFESSOR E. C. HAYES (6) Professor Edward Carey Hayes, Head of the Department of Sociology, died on August 7, 1928. He had been on the s a f since 1907, and his salary for tf 1927-28 was $5,500; therefore, the death b n f t payable i $2,750. He has named eei s as his beneficiary his wife, Mrs. Annie Lee Bean Hayes. I recommend that $2,750 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to pay this death b n f t and that the Comptroller be authorized to make eei the payment to Mrs. Hayes. O n motion of Mrs. Busey, this recommendation was adopted, and the appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Barr, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Dr. Noble, Mr. Trees, Mr. Ward; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Ickes, Mr. Small. DEATH BENEFIT—MR. W . M. C R O U C H (7) Mr. W . M. Crouch, Laboratory Helper in Botany, died on September 10, 1928. H e had been on the staff for six years, and, under the rules of the Board, a death benefit of $378 is payable in his case. I recommend that $378 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to pay this death benefit and that the Comptroller be authorized to make payment to Mr. Crouch's legal representative.
