O n motion of Dr. Noble, this purchase was authorized on terms to be approved by the President of the University and the Director of the University Press. COMPANIES FURNISHING SURETY BONDS (44) The semi-annual report of the Comptroller of companies furnishing surety bonds to the University. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this report w a s referred to the Finance C o m m i t t e e for consideration and report. DEATH BENEFIT FOR MISS MARY L. BLACKWELL (45) I regret to report that Miss Mary L. Blackwell, Clerk in the Department of Chemistry, died on April 7. She had been in the employ of the University since September 1, 1912, and had been on leave of absence without pay since September 16, 1929, on account of illness. The death benefit allowance in her case isfiftyper cent of her salary or $630. I recommend that an appropriation of $630 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund and that the Comptroller be authorized to make payment to Miss Blackwell's designated beneficiary. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this recommendation w a s adopted. T h e appropriation w a s m a d e b y the following vote: A y e , M r . A r m strong, President Barr, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, D r . Noble, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r . Fisher, M r . Simpson. PERMISSION TO CONSTRUCT TENNIS COURTS (46) A request from the Athletic Association, transmitted by Professor White for Director Huff, for permission to construct, at the expense of the Association, six concrete tennis courts west of the Library and south of Armory Avenue. O n motion of M r . Trees, this construction w a s authorized. TIME OF MAY MEETING O n motion of Dr. Noble, it was voted to hold the M a y meeting at the University, in Urbana, at 10 o'clock a.m. on Friday, M a y 9, 1930.
