GUGGENHEIM FELLOWSHIP FOR PROFESSOR PERRY

(8) Associate Professor Perry was granted sabbatical leave of absence on December 4, 1929, for the year beginning September 1, 1930. He has since received notice of the award of a Guggenheim fellowship for the same period. I recommend that Professor Perry be authorized to accept this fellowship. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, this recommendation was approved. APPROPRIATION FOR PATENT EXPENSES (9) Statements have been received from Brown, Jackson, Boettcher, & Dienner, Patent Attorneys, for their services in connection with various patent matters, viz: Hugh A. Brown, Case 2 Suppressed wave radio carrier system J 10 00 Harold E. Babbitt and Harry Schlenz Patent on Sludge Digestion 156 50 Preparation of option agreement and license agreement with F. N. Bard on the A. M . Buswell and C. S. Boruff patent appliS916 00 cation on Cellulose Digestion 750 50 I recommend that an appropriation of ?i 500 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to pay the above and any other patent expenses which may be incurred before the end of the fiscal year. DEATH BENEFIT FOR DEAN C. E. CHADSEY

(10) I regret deeply to report the death this morning of Dean Charles Ernest Chadsey of the College of Education. Dean Chadsey wasfifty-nineyears old and has been on the staff since September, 1919. The amount of the death benefit is the maximum allowed. I recommend that an appropriation of ?3,ooo be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose and that the Comptroller be authorized to make payment to Dean Chadsey's designated beneficiary, Mrs. Callie Price Chadsey. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation w a s adopted. T h e appropriation w a s m a d e b y the following vote: A y e , M r . A r m strong, President Barr, M r s . Evans, M r s . REIMBURSEMENT FOR MUSEUM MATERIAL LOST IN TRANSIT DURING THE W A R

(11) A report from the Comptroller that he has received from the Mixed Claims Commission the sum of S1304.11 representing reimbursement in full plus interest at five per cent from the date of loss to the date of payment for certain articles purchased by the University for the Museum of European Culture in 1915 and which were lost when the Steamship Arabic on which they were shipped in August of that year was torpedoed and sunk while en route by a German vessel. The amount has been credited to the General Fund. This report w a s received for record.

PURCHASE OF DIESEL ENGINE

(12) A requisition from the Department of Mechanical Engineering approved by the Dean of the College for the purchase of one 80 horse power RH-40Z, two-cylinder, 327 r.p.m. (M.W.M. Benz) Diesel Engine from the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company at a price of $3500, f.o.b. Urbana. The equipment is to be used for instructional pur-
