(6) A request from Professor W . S. Bayley, head of the Department of Geology, who, under the rules, is due for retirement at the end of the present academic year, that he be continued in active service in his present position for one year beginning September, 1930. I have consulted a majority of the members of the department of higher rank, and other officers, andfindingthem preponderantly of the opinion that the interests of the department will be promoted by continuing Professor Bayley in service for another year, I so recommend. O n motion of M r . Trees, this recommendation w a s adopted.

APPROPRIATION FOR PROPOSED SURVEY OF COLLEGES OF PHARMACY A N D PHARMACEUTICAL EDUCATION

(7) A request from Dean W . B. Day of the School of Pharmacy that the University contribute $100 a year for three years toward a survey of schools of pharmacy and pharmaceutical education to be conducted by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and a recommendation that an appropriation of J100 be made as payment for the current year. O n motion of M r . Trees, this project w a s approved and the appropriation w a s m a d e as recommended, by the following vote: A y e , M r . Barr, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Simpson, M r . Trees; no, M r . Armstrong, M r s . Busey, M r . Fisher, Dr. Noble; absent, M r . Blair, M r . E m m e r s o n .

APPROPRIATION FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY

(8) A request from the Supervising Architect for an additional appropriation of $ 5,000 for the rewiring of the remodeled Electrical Engineering Laboratory and the resetting of equipment. I recommend that $5,000 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this appropriation w a s m a d e , b y the following vote: A y e , President Armstrong, M r s . Busey, M r s . Evans, M r . Fisher, M r s . Grigsby, Dr. Noble, M r . Simpson; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, M r . Blair, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r . Trees.

PURCHASE OF COAL FOR POWER PLANT

(9) A recommendation from the Acting Comptroller, Mr. H. M. Edwards, concurred in by the Supervising Architect, that the responsibility for the purchase of coal for use in the Power Plant at Urbana be placed on the Supervising Architect, who is in charge of operation, with authority to act for the Comptroller in the consummation of such purchases. On receipt of requisitions covering purchases made in this way bearing the approval of the Supervising Architect the Acting Comptroller will authorize the issuance of Purchase Orders to confirm the transactions. Mr. Edwards further requests that the delegation of this authority be limited to the period of his service as Acting Comptroller, and that the continuation of this arrangement after such period be subject to confirmation by Mr. Morey on his return, February 1, 1930. I recommend approval of this arrangement. O n motion of M r . Trees, this recommendation w a s adopted.
