REPORT OF THE COMPTROLLER QUARTER ENDED SEPTEMBER 30, 1929 SUMMARY

Reserve and Contingent Fund The unappropriated balance of the Reserve and Contingent Fund (estimated excess of income of the year over appropriations) at the close of the quarter was $294,085, as per Schedule A. The balance at the corresponding date a year ago was $215,605. O n the corresponding date a year ago, the balance was $1,268,570. Budget Expenditures Board appropriations to departments for the current fiscal year total $6,231,388, including salaries $4,117,349, expense and equipment $2,114,039. These were 19.0% expended at the end of the quarter, and 2.7% encumbered. (Included in Schedule D ) . On the corresponding date a year ago these appropriations were 19.5% expended and 2.4% encumbered. Trust Funds Endowment funds from private gifts for special purposes (see Schedule F) are distributed as follows: Educational Endowments $119 686 Student Loan Endowments (Of which $160,936 was outstanding in student notes at the end of the quarter) 181 782 Scholarship and Prize Endowments 84 556 Other Endowments 80 031 Total $466 055 Indebtedness on Properly Outstanding indebtedness on University property at the end of the quarter consisted solely of 6 % bonds totalling $50,900 on the Dental Building in Chicago, due in 1932. Of this amount $1,500 is held in the Treasury of the University (Schedule H ) . Residence Halls A summary of the operations in the residence halls for the year to September 12, 1929, is shown as Appendix I. The balance from operations in the residence halls at the end of the quarter was $149,685, and in the Davenport House $10,064. Stadium Fund of which Appendix is included giving the report II.
