Barr, these appointments were confirmed. APPOINTMENT OF DR. ROSSLEENE ARNOLD HETLER (4) Dean Mumford and Professor Wardall recommend that Dr. Rossleene Arnold Hetler, Assistant Professor of Nutrition in the Department of H o m e Economics, be appointed Acting Head of the Department for the academic year 1929-30, at a salary of $4,000, during the absence of Miss Wardall, who is to be on sabbatical leave during that time. I concur. O n motion of M r s . Busey, this appointment w a s m a d e . LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DR. OLIVE C. HAZLETT (5) Dean Babcock and Professor Townsend recommend that Dr. Olive C. Hazlett, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, who has been on leave of absence without pay during the present academic year, be appointed Associate Professor of Mathematics at $4,000 a year and that her leave of absence without pay be extended until September 1, 1930, she to return then on the terms of this appointment. I concur. O n motion of M r s . Busey, this appointment w a s m a d e .

RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR ALBERT TEN EYCK OLMSTEAD

(6) I report with regret the resignation of Professor Albert Ten Eyck Olmstead as Professor of History to take effect September 1, 1929. Professor Olmstead has accepted a position with the new Oriental Institute established recently at the University of Chicago. This report w a s received for record. APPOINTMENTS TO ALLERTON AMERICAN TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIPS (7) The Dean of the College of Engineering and the Head of the Department of Architecture recommend that Mr. Buford L. Pickens, of the junior class, and M r . William V. Reed, of the senior class, be appointed to the two Allerton American Traveling Scholarships for the summer of 1929. I have approved these recommendations, and ask confirmation. On motion of Mrs. Grigsby, this action was confirmed.

CHANGE IN REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION IN THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC

(8) The University Senate recommends the following changes in the requirements for graduation in music effective September 1, 1929: 1. A minimum requirement of 20 hours in the minor of applied music, with 2 to 4 hours' credit for each course taken, depending upon the student's proficiency. 2. A minimum requirement of 1 hours of credit in a new course, "Accompanying and Ensemble," of all students in music except those majoring in theory. O n motion of M r s . Busey, these requirements were adopted.

CHANGE IN REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF LAW (J.D.)

(9) The University Senate recommends that candidates for the degree of Doctor of L a w (J-D.) be required to register in a thesis course for credit, this requirement to be effective September 1, 1929. O n motion of M r . Barr, this requirement w a s adopted.
