that income should have been received from sources which are entirely unknown to the authorities of the University and which no amount of auditing would reveal. So far as the records of the University are concerned all income to which the University is shown to be entitled has been received and accounted for. Yours faithfully, Arthur Young & Co. ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP IN SOCIOLOGY (2) A request for authority to f l the position in Sociology made vacant by the withil drawal of Assistant Professor Theodore Abel, at a salary of $3,500 a year. O n motion of M r s . Busey, this authority w a s granted. U1CENSE FOR KUNZ PHOTO-ELECTRIC CELL (3) A communication from the Committee on Patents, advisory to the President, concerning the license for use of the Kunz photo-electric cell. O n motion of M r . Trees, this communication w a s referred to a special committee consisting of M r . Fisher a n d M r . Barr, for report to the Executive C o m m i t t e e for action. MR. BARR TO SERVE ON EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE O n motion of Mrs. Evans, M r . Barr was designated to serve as a member of the Executive Committee during the absence from the state of Mr. Trees this summer. RETIREMENT OF PROFESSOR TOWNSEND (4) Professor E. J. Townsend, Head of the Department of Mathematics, having reached the age of 65, asks to be retired as of August 31, 1929, under Section III, Paragraph (a) of the rules governing Retiring Allowances. H e has been on the staff continuously since September 1, 1893. Dean Babcock recommends approval of his request and I concur. O n motion of M r s . Busey, this request w a s granted.

(5) A request for authority to appoint a successor to Professor A. P. Carman, Head of the Department of Physics, who retires on August 31, 1929. O n motion of M r . Trees, this authority w a s granted. APPOINTMENT OF DR. O. F. KAMPME1ER, HEAD OF D E P A R T M E N T OF A N A T O M Y (6) On recommendation o Dean Davis, I recommend that Dr. 0. F. Kampmeier, f Professor of Anatomy, be appointed Head of the Department of Anatomy, beginning September 1, 1929, at an annual salary of $6,000. O n motion of D r . Noble, this appointment w a s m a d e . APPOINTMENT OF DR. FREDERIC E. LEE AS PROFESSOR O F ECONOMICS (7) Dean Thompson and Professor Bogart recommend that Dr. Frederic E. Lee, at present American Trade Commissioner with the American Legation i London, be n appointed Professor of Economics for two years from September i, 1929, at an annual salary of $6,000. I concur. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this appointment w a s m a d e . APPOINTMENT OF DR. JOHN THEODORE BUCHHOLZ AS PROFESSOR O F B O T A N Y (8) On recommendation of Dean Babcock and Professor Hottes, I recommend that Dr. John Theodore Buchholz of the University of Texas be appointed Professor of Botany, beginning September 1, 1929, at an annual salary of $6,000.
