I929] UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS I03 Budget Expenditures Board appropriations to departments for the current fiscal year total $5,981,386, including salaries, $3,926,188, expense and equipment, $2,055,208. These were 45.2% expended at the end of the quarter, and 2 . 6 % encumbered. (Included in Schedule C.) O n the corresponding date a year ago these appropriations were 4 5 . 7 % expended and 2 . 4 % encumbered. Building and Improvement Funds Building and Improvement funds for the biennium were 39.5% expended at the end of the quarter, and 4 0 . 3 % encumbered, as per Schedule C. Trust Funds Endowment funds from private gifts for special purposes (see Schedule D ) are distributed as follows: Professorial and Lectureship Endowments $119 686 Student Loan Endowments 175 101 (of which $153,217 was outstanding in student notes at the end of the quarter.) Scholarship and Prize Endowments 84 486 Other Endowments 91 431 Total $47° 7°4 Indebtedness on Property Outstanding indebtedness on University property at the end of the quarter consisted solely of 6 % bonds totalling $60,000 on the Dental Building in Chicago, due in 1932. Of this amount $7,600 was in the Treasury of the University at the date of this report awaiting cancellation as of January 1, 1929 (Schedule D ) . Residence Halls A summary of the operations of the residence halls for the year to December 15, 1928, is shown as Appendix I. The balance in the Residence Halls fund at the end of the quarter was $117,890, and in the Davenport House, $7,543. Stadium Fund A n appendix is included giving the report of the Memorial Stadium Fund, of which the Board of Trustees is custodian. (See Appendix II.) Lloyd Moeey Comptroller
