BOARD OF TRUSTEES

COMMITTEE O N LANDSCAPING T H E C A M P U S M r . Barr presented the following report: A meeting of the Committee on Landscaping the Campus was held at the Union League Club, Chicago, 12:30 p. m., May 29, 1928. There were present Mrs. Anna W . Ickes, chairman, Mrs. Helen Grigsby, and Mr. George A. Barr. Mr. Merle J. Trees, member of the Board, President Kinley, and Professor J. M . White, Supervising Architect, were also present. It was moved by Mr. Barr that the Committee recommend to the Board to accept the proposal of Mr. Vitale made in his letter of March 19, 1928, and addressed to Mr. Charles A. Piatt, as outlined in paragraphs numbered 1 and 2 of that letter. These paragraphs are as follows: I. For a preliminary visit to the University grounds before beginning our studies our charges will be $100.00 per day while on the grounds and $50.00 per day traveling time. 2. For the preparation of a general plan and report embodying the organization of the ground, the location of buildings and a block indication of planting and other landscape improvements, we shall charge a lump sum of $3,500.00. W e shall present atfirsta preliminary plan for the purposes of discussion and make thereafter a l changes and modifications brought out by l criticism during such discussion, and prepare finally the ultimate general plan. Payments will be made as follows: $2,500 upon presentation of the preliminary plan and $1,000 on presentation offinalplan and report. The above charges do not include time spent by Mr. Vitale or Mr. Geiffert on the grounds of the University, if, and when, necessary. For such time our charge will be $100.00 per day spent on the grounds and $50.00 while traveling. The motion was passed. The Committee adjourned. Anna W . Ickes George A. Barr Helen M. REPORT OF JOINT FINANCE COMMITTEE AND STUDENT WELFARE COMMITTEE O N McKINLEY HOSPITAL Mr. Trees presented the following report: A joint meeting of these two committees was c l e to be held in Chiald cago on Tuesday, June 26, for the consideration of matters relating to the McKinley Hospital. Only Mr. Merle J. Trees, of the Finance Committee, and Mrs. Helen M. Grigsby, of the Student Welfare Committee, were present. However, other members of the Board present were Mr. George A. Barr, Mrs. Anna W . Ickes, and Dr. W . L. Noble. President Kinley was also present. Matters relating to the Hospital, financial and other, were discussed and certain recommendations drawn up which have since been submitted to such other members of the two committees as could be reached, and are presented herewith as the report of the members of the joint committee who have been able to consider the matter. (1) According to the report of the Comptroller, for the year ending June 30, 1928, the operating loss of the McKinley Hospital was $5,913.14, not including the Comptroller's estimate of approximately $5,000, for heat, light, power, and water, and depreciation of equipment. The cost of the heat, light, power, and water was about $2,000. This means that the aggregate deficit was approximately $10,000. The deficit of last year was met by an assignment by the Trustee of the Student Hospital Association Fund, made by him in accordance with the
