BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Mr. Sullivan, under date of April 6, replied that: "I am not sufficiently familiar with this estate to give information about it. However I have written Mr. Beich to come in and so soon as I hear from him will write you fully in connection with the assets of the estate." I ask your approval of my action in this matter. O n motion of Mrs. Ickes, the action of the President of the University in this matter was approved. CLAIM OF MR. PAUL G. BUSEY FOR AUTOMOBILE DAMAGES (27) I received recently a letter from Mr. Paul G. Busey, of Urbana, asking recompense for expenses incurred for repairs on his automobile caused by a collision between some cavalry horses ridden by students and his machine last November. I informed Mr. Busey, in short, that the University was not liable and that his remedy lay in application to the Court of Claims. H e courteously acknowledges my letter and requests me to call the attention of the Board to the matter. M r . Busey's letter was read. O n motion of M r . Barr, the President of the University was requested to inform M r . Busey that in the opinion of the Board he should proceed through the Court of Claims. HIGHWAY THROUGH ALEDO TRACT (28) A request that a delegation of citizens from Aledo be heard on the matter of dedicating a right of way for Route 83 through the experimental tract at Aledo. T h e delegation was heard. O n motion of M r . Trees, this matter was referred to the Executive Committee, with power to act, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mrs. Ickes, M r . Trees, M r . W a r d ; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, Dr. Noble, M r . Small. COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATIONS OF BOILER FURNACE REFRACTORIES A N D O F RIVETED C O N N E C T I O N S (29) On recommendation of Dean Ketchum, I recommend approval of an agreement with the Special Research Committee on Boiler Furnace Refractories of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for a cooperative investigation of boiler furnace refractories by the Department of Ceramic Engineering, and also with the Chicago Bridge and Iron Works for a cooperative investigation of riveted connections by the Engineering Experiment Station, both agreements being in accordance with the regulations of the Board governing such investigations. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this recommendation was adopted. M r . Trees asked to be recorded as not voting. DONATION OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS FOR R E S E A R C H IN C O N C R E T E A R C H E S (30) Dean Ketchum has received and transmitted to the Comptroller a check for $1,200 from the American Society of Civil Engineers to provide for two research graduate assistantships in the Engineering Experiment Station for research in concrete arch investigation. This is an investigation begun in August, 1926. I have authorized Dean Ketchum to receive the gift and I report the matter for record. This report was received for record.
