ALUMNI DIRECTORY At this point, Mr. Glenn M . Hobbs, President of the Alumni Association, was heard concerning the proposal to print an Alumni Directory. The Committee on Alumni, to w h o m this matter had been previously referred, was requested to report on this matter at the next meeting. LANDSCAPING O F THE C A M P U S Mrs. Ickes, for the special committee on the landscaping of the campus, made a report of progress. O n motion of Dr. Noble, the report was received and the committee was instructed to have a conference with Mr. Piatt as soon as possible. PRESIDENT'S H O U S E Mr. Barr, for the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, made a report of progress on the consideration of a residence for the President. W O M E N ' S RESIDENCE HALLS Mrs. Evans, for the committees on Student Welfare and Finance, made a report recommending that the connection between Davenport House and the Kappa house be made according to the plans drawn by Professor White, at an estimated cost of $15,000 for construction and furnishings. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this plan was approved, and the Supervising Architect was instructed to proceed with detailed plans and specifications and to secure bids. O n motion of Dr. Noble, an appropriation of $15,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, was made from the reserve fund of the residence halls, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Barr, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mrs. Ickes, Dr. Noble, Mr. Trees; no, none; absent, Mr. Small, Mr. Ward. Mrs. Evans, for the same committees, recommended that a third, or east, residence hall for women be constructed from the reserve fund already existing and to be received from the operation of the residence halls, providing satisfactory financial arrangements can be adopted. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this recommendation was approved. FIRE BRIDGES TO W E S T SIDE HOSPITAL Dr. Noble, for the Committee on Chicago Departments, reported a recommendation that the bridges between the Medicine and Dentistry buildings and the West Side Hospital be put in condition to be used as fire exits both ways, and that the recommendations of the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention of the City of Chicago, as stated in his letter of December 9, 1927, be complied with; further, that the firm of Schmidt, Garden, and Erikson, Architects, be given charge of this work, the expense to be shared equally by the University and the West Side Hospital. O n motion of Dr. Noble, these recommendations were adopted.
