Rolfe has informed m e that he wishes to renew his prize of $250 for the best contribution towards a new, better, or increased utilization of any natural resources of the State of Illinois, for next year. RESEARCH WORK IN ATHLETICS

(32) The Comptroller reports the receipt from the Athletic Association of $3,000 in partial payment of the contribution of the Association toward the work in Athletic Research for the year 1927-28. This report w a s received for record. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MISS HILDA J. ALSETH (33) Professor P. L. Windsor of the Library recommends that Miss Hilda J. Alseth, Librarian of the Engineering Library, be allowed her salary from August 15 to Septer 15, during which time she was forced to be absent on account of illness. I concur in his recommendation. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation w a s concurred in.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MISS VERNA BROOKS

(34) In accordance with the authority given m e at the Board Meeting on July 14, (page 335), I have approved a leave of absence without salary for one year beginning September 1, 1927, for Miss Verna Brooks, Associate Professor of Physical Education for W o m e n . CASE OF DR. ROY L. MOODIE

(35) In accordance with the action of the Board taken on October 20, 1926, and in operation during the academiq year, I have inquired into the condition of Dr. Moodie and find that he is not capable of resuming his work. O n motion of M r . Barr, leave of absence o n one-half salary (on the s a m e terms as for last year) w a s granted to D r . M o o d i e for o n e year beginning September i, 1927.

APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR REUEL RICHARD BARLOW

(36) In accordance with the authority given me, I have approved the appointment of Mr. Reuel Richard Barlow, formerly assistant city editor of the Minneapolis Tribune, as Assistant Professor of Journalism for one year beginning September I, 1927, at a salary of $3,000.
