[September 27

M A T T E R S P R E S E N T E D BY PRESIDENT K1NLEY The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. BAKER PRIZE FUND (1) A report of an offer of the heirs of the late Professor I. 0. Baker to exchange certain bonds for the ones now in hand. After consideration and investigation, i t does not seem advisable to make this exchange. N o action w a s taken on this matter. INVESTMENT OF STRONG SCHOLARSHIP FUND (2) Mr. Walter A. Strong, publisher of the Chicago Daily News, has sent a check for $1000 to be used as a scholarship by Mary Joan Bunting, of Chicago. This is, therefore, not a permanent establishment. I turned the check over to the Comptroller. He, with the consent of Mr. Strong, will invest the unused portions of this fund in fourth Liberty 4 ^ per cent bonds or ^ per cent Treasury Notes. This report w a s received for record, and the Comptroller w a s granted permission to act as M r . Strong's personal agent in this matter. GREENHOUSE AND SERVICE BUILDING AT THE COOK C O U N T Y EXPERIMENT STATION (3) On request of Dean Mumford, I recommend the erection of a greenhouse and a service building at the Cook County Experiment Station at a cost of approximately $12,000 for the two structures, to be paid out of the appropriation for the Cook County Experiment Station—one-half from the State appropriation for the present fiscal year and the other half after July I, 1928. The Expense and Equipment Budget for the Cook County Experiment Station provides $7,000 for the year 1927-28 for land and buildings, and the first half of the expense of these buildings is to come out of that item. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, the erection of these buildings w a s authorized. T h e bids for the construction of these buildings were opened, and recorded as follows. Foley Greenhouse M f g . C o $11 600 John C. Moninger C o 12 858 Lord & Burnham C o 18 266 O n motion of M r . Armstrong, these bids were referred to the Supervising Architect, to report to the Executive Committee, the Committee to have power to act. APPROPRIATION TO DEPARTMENT OF DAIRY HUSBANDRY (4.) By misunderstanding, an omission was made in the budget of Dairy Husbandry for stenographic and other assistance. On request of the Department, approved by Dean Mumford, I recommend that an appropriation of $900 be added to the wages item of the budget of the Department for this purpose, from the Reserve and Contingent Fund. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this appropriation w a s m a d e , by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Busey, M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, D r . Noble, M r . Trees, M r . W a r d ; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, M r s . Ickes, M r . Small.
