The number of clock hours of elective subjects is reduced one-half—from 192 to 96. The number of clock hours of required subjects is correspondingly increased by 96 hours, this increase to be apportioned among the various courses. The total number of clock hours will not be changed. O n motion of D r . Noble, this modification w a s adopted.

AMENDMENT OF RULE, REPORTS

(6) A recommendation that paragraph 10 of the Board Rules on organization and administration of the instructional staff be amended to read as follows: "On or before the first day of June in each year, each dean and director, and each head of a general University Department, shall make to the President an annual report in which he shall treat fully of the work of his college, school, or department. Any of these University officers may make reports or advance suggestions at any time and shall report to the President whenever requested to do so. All reports intended for publication shall be addressed to the President for submission to the Board." O n motion of M r . Barr, this a m e n d m e n t w a s adopted.

BEQUEST OF CHARLES A. DENISON, DECEASED

(7) At the M a y 21 meeting of the Board (page 273) I reported part of the will of the late Charles A. Denison of Argenta, wherein the Board of Trustees has been named a legatee to the amount of $25,000—$15,000 for student loan fund and $10,000 for the purchase of books. I overlooked one condition of the bequest, namely, that the Trustee of the Estate is directed to require a memorial or tablet to be erected and maintained at the University of Illinois to the joint memories of the testator and his father; the design, inscription, material, cost, and location of the memorial to be determined by the Trustee, and the cost of same to be borne by the University. Action o n this matter w a s deferred.

RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING RETIREMENTS

(8) Under the rules of the Board the following members of the staff retire September I, 1927: Basil Brown, Physical Plant employee, age 68, September 1, next, length of service 27 years. C. A. Dunseth, Physical Plant employee, age 73, September I, next, length of service 17 years. Louis Finder, Physical Plant employee, age 68, September I, next, length of service 25 years. W . G. Htxson, Physical Plant employee, age 68, September 1, next, length of service 17 years. O n motion of D r . Noble, these retirements were m a d e a matter of record under the rules.

MR. W. A. MclNTIRE CONTINUED

(9) Mr. W . A. Mclntire, Weather Clerk in the College of Agriculture, requests that he be continued for another year from September 1, 1927. Dean Mumford recommends that this be done. Mr. Mclntire is competent to carry on his work and I recommend that he be continued for one year. O n motion of D r . Noble, this recommendation w a s adopted.
