POWERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE O n motion of Mr. Armstrong the consideration of the matter of what, i any, reservations should be made in the powers of the Executive f Committee, (see minutes, March 8, 1927, page 233) was made a special order of business for the M a y meeting of the Board, and the Secretary was instructed to send to each member of the Board a memorandum quoting the basic law and the By-Laws of the Board on this matter, with a statement that members who wish to suggest any changes are requested to have them ready at the time of the meeting. MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT KINLEY The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. CONTRACT FOR LIGHTING FIXTURES FOR PHARMACY ADDITION (1) The Supervising Architect reports that bids have been received by Schmidt, Garden, & Erikson, Architects, on the lighting fixtures for the Pharmacy Addition. Bid Bond Luminous Fixture & Supply Co $3,003.55 £45.00 T. W . Wilmarth Company 3,338.00 50.00 Moran 8c Hastings Mfg. Co 2,935.63 43-38 C. G. Everson & Co 2,931.75 None These bids include two sets of fixtures—one set for which specifications were submitted by the architects and one requiring special design. The bidders were instructed to include an estimate of #2,000 to cover the latter set. The low bidder on thefixturesfor which specifications were submitted is the Moran & Hastings Mfg. Co., with a bid of $935.63 (which is minus the allowance of #2,000 for the fixtures requiring special designing) and an allowance of #43.38 for the bond, making their net bid $892.25. A bid of $982.00 has also been received from the Victor S. Pearlman Co. on fixtures for which they submitted a special design. Professor White recommends the award of these two contracts as follows: Moran & Hastings Mfg. Co #892.25 Victor S. Pearlman Co 982.00 I concur in the recommendation that the contract for the regularly designed fixtures be awarded to the Moran & Hastings Manufacturing Company. Recommended that the bid for special fixtures be referred back to the architects in conference with Professor White and to secure i possible competition in def signs and bids and that the Executive Committee be authorized to award a contract as soon as the information is ready. O n motion of M r s . Busey, the contract w a s awarded to the M o ran & Hastings Manufacturing C o m p a n y as recommended. O n motion of M r . Barr, the recommendation concerning the bids for special fixtures w a s adopted. INSURANCE ON PHARMACY BUILDING DURING CONSTRUCTION (2) The Comptroller reports that the architects having advised that $50,000 additional insurance was necessary on the new unit of the Pharmacy Building under construction in Chicago, this insurance being required by the building contract, he advertised for bids and received only one proposal, from Prussing and Company of
