GIFT FROM FENGER MEMORIAL. ASSOCIATION (27) In accordance with the authority given me, the Provost has accepted a gift of $300 in cash representing half of a grant by the Fenger Memorial Association for work in bacterial proteins. This report w a s received for record. A t this point, President Trees returned.

CHARLES SUMNER BACON LECTURESHIP IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

(28) A number of the friends of Dr. Charles Sumner Bacon, for twenty-three years Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in our College of Medicine, have contributed the sum of $4601.16, to endow a lectureship to be known as the Charles Sumner Bacon Lectureship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. It is the hope of Doctor Bacon's friends that this amount may be increased to at least $5000 at an early date. T h e money in the amount mentioned above has been received by the Comptroller. I make the following recommendations, in accordance with the wishes of Doctor Bacon and others interested: I. That this lectureship be known by the title given above. 2. That a lecturer be nominated to the President of the University by the Dean of the College of Medicine, on recommendation of the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, either annually or in alternate years as m a y seem best to the head of the Department and the Dean of the College. 3. That the head of the Department, with the approval of the Dean, m a y make arrangements for one lecture or, when desirable and possible, a series of lectures from the lecturer chosen in any year. 4. That the President be directed to make appropriate acknowledgement of this gift for the Board through Doctor Bacon. O n motion of M r . Blair, these r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s w e r e approved. GIFTS TO THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (29) Under the authority given the President by the Board of Trustees, the Provost authorized Dean Ketchum to accept the following gifts: Six (6) Steel tires for the supporting wheels in the Locomotive Laboratory, offered by Mr. Charles Riddell, Chicago, Manager of the Standard Steel Works Company, valued at $375. From the Western Electric Company of Chicago, the following: One number two Morse Universal Cylindrical Grinder, valued at $300. One twelve inch by five foot Hendey Engine Lathe, valued at $150. One number thirteen Pratt and Whitney Drilling Machine, valued at $150. From the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, the following: One single electrode plate type klydonograph, valued at $500. One automobile motor from the Hupp Car Corporation.
