Brown) for $3,240, less taxes, but the University to assume thefiveremaining light assessments of $6.71 each, and the agent's commission which will not be over $100. I concur in this recommendation, and recommend further that the sum of $6,400 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to meet the expense of the purchase of these properties, as described above. RESIGNATION OF DOCTORS MEYER, McNEALY, A N D DAVISON (7) O n m y return from m y vacation, I found that Doctors Karl Meyer, R. W . McNealy, and Marshall Davison of the Department of Surgery of the College of Medicine had submitted their resignations from the staff. These resignations were accepted in m y absence by the Provost. This report was received for record. RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR NEWTON G. THOMAS (8) Dr. Newton G. Thomas, Professor of Histology in the College of Dentistry, has resigned from his position, to take effect September 1, 1926. This report was received for record. RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR G. D. BEAL (9) Professor George D. Beal of the Department of Chemistry has resigned his position, effective September I, 1926, in order to accept an appointment as Assistant Director of the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, at the University of Pittsburgh. This report w a s received for record. RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR C. C. WILLIAMS (10) Professor C. C. Williams has resigned as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, to take effect September 1, 1916, in order to accept the deanship of the College of Engineering of the State University of Iowa. This report w a s received for record. APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR WHITNEY C. HUNTINGTON (11) On recommendation of Dean Ketchum I have appointed Professor Whitney Clark Huntington, as Professor of Civil Engineering and Head of the Department, on indefinite tenure, at an annual salary of $6,500, beginning September 1, 1926. O n motion of D r . Noble, this action w a s confirmed. APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR JOHN S. CRANDELL (12) On nomination of Dean Ketchum I have appointed John Stanley Crandell Professor of Highway Engineering, for one year, at an annual salary of $4,000, beginning September I, 1926. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this action was confirmed. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR CHARLES ZELENY (13) Professor Charles Zeleny of the Department of Zoology has requested sabbatical leave of absence on half pay during the academic year 1926-27. His request came to m e after the July meeting of the Board. In order that he might go ahead with his plans, which included foreign study, I authorized him to go. I request approval of m y action in this case. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this action was approved.
