The multimedia collection of Brookens Library strongly supports the mandates and programs of the university. It includes more than 175,000 volumes; 3100 current subscriptions to periodicals and newspapers; 45,000 government publications; 230,000 microforms; and a rich variety o f musical and spoken recordings, simulation games, audio and video tapes, archival materials, slides, and maps. The library supplements this collection through cooperative arrangements with other libraries by means of interlibrary loan

or direct borrowing. Turntable, media equipment, microform reader-printers, typewriters, calculators, and duplicating equipment are available to users. In a d d i t i o n , the library's media department provides graphic, audio, video, and photographic services for individual students and faculty, as well as for classroom operations. The first director of the library Howard D i l l o n , who introduced distil ideas in library service and organization, and oversaw its rapid growth during a period of five years.
