The Buildings and Grounds Committee met at the University November 6th to consider the matter of building concrete bleachers on Illinois Field, this matter having been referred to the Committee at the October meeting of the Board. Members present were Mrs. Ickes, Mrs. Grigsby and M r . Armstrong. President Kinley, Professor White, Director Huff, Judge Harker, and M r . Roseberry were present, also Assistant Dean Jordan who was representing the City of Urbana. President Kinley read a letter from M r . Scheidenhelm, President of the Alumni Association, pertaining to the opening of Main Street through Illinois Field and imploring the Board not to permit this street to be opened. This matter was carefully considered and this Committee wishes to go on record as not in favor of opening a street through Illinois Field. It was stated that the approximate life of wood bleachers is seventeen years and that thefirstcost would be about one-third that of concrete. In consideration of this and our inability to foresee the development of the University so far in advance and also the possibility that before the expiration of that time it m a y be found desirable to locate all physical activities near the new Gymnasium and Stadium, we recommend that wood bleachers be constructed. Respectfully, A n n a W . Ickes, Chairman Helen M . Grigsby Fred L. Wham J. W. Armstrong W. L. Noble O n motion of Mr. Trees, the statement concerning a street was adopted.
