MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS October 7, 1993 The October meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois was held in the Pine Lounge, Illini Union, Urbana, Illinois, on Thursday, October 7, 1993, beginning at 10:30 a.m. President Judith Ann Calder called the meeting to order and asked the secretary to call the roll. The following members of the board were present: Dr. Gloria Jackson Bacon, Mr. Kenneth R. Boyle, Mrs. Judith Ann Calder, Dr. Jeffrey Gindorf, Mr. Donald W. Grabowski, Mrs. Susan L. Gravenhorst, Mr. Thomas R. Lamont, Ms. Ada N. Lopez,1 Ms. Judith R. Reese. Governor Jim Edgar was absent. Ms. Julia C. Huff, nonvoting student trustee from the Urbana-Champaign campus, was present. Mr. Patrick C. Riley, nonvoting student trustee from the Chicago campus, was absent. Also present were President Stanley O. Ikenberry; Dr. Robert W. Resek, vice president for academic affairs; Dr. James J. Stukel, chancellor, University of Illinois at Chicago; Dr. Michael Aiken, chancellor, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and the officers of the board, Dr. Craig S. Bazzani, comptroller (and vice president for business and finance); Mr. Byron H. Higgins, university counsel; and Dr. Michele M. 1 Ms. Lopez joined the meeting at 11 a.m. 363
