Funds are available from the Institutional Funds budget of the Chicago Physical Plant. A schedule of the bids received and a description of the alternates have been filed with the secretary of the board for record. The existing research laboratory for the Department of Physics will be upgraded and supplemented by additional new laboratory (500 square feet) space. This new area will provide necessary additional research space for support equipment. The scope of the work involves modifications to the existing clean room and the installation of new mechanical equipment to support the operation of a similar clean room in adjacent space of the Science and Engineering South building. The work consists of demolition, general construction, and modifications to the plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.

On motion of Mrs. Shepherd, these contracts were awarded by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Boyle, Mrs. Calder, Mr. Downey, Mr. Grabowski, Mrs. Gravenhorst, Mr. Lamont, Ms. Reese, Mrs. Shepherd; no, none; absent, Dr. Bacon, Governor Edgar. (The student advisory vote was: Aye, Mr. Begovich, Mr. Lawless; no, none.)

Contracts, National Soybean Research Laboratory, Phase II, Urbana

(11) The president of the University, with the concurrence of the appropriate administrative officers, recommends, subject to U.S. Department of Agriculture approval, the award of the following contracts for Phase II of remodeling the Environmental and Agricultural Sciences Building for the National Soybean Research Laboratory. The award in each case is to the lowest responsible bidder on its base bid plus acceptance of the indicated alternates. Division I — General English Brothers Company, Champaign
