in meeting the expenses of securing the property. The balance of the appropriation, namely, $1574.50, is still in the University treasury. I recommend that this be covered back into the Reserve and Contingent fund.

On motion of Mr. Noble this recommendation was unanimously adopted.

LEAVE OF A B S E N C E OF PROFESSOR J. W. G A R N E R (9) At his request, approved by Dean Babcock, I recommend that Professor J. W. Garner be given a leave of absence for the first semester of the next academic year, without salary, to accept the Tagore professorship of law in the University of Calcutta.

On motion of Mrs. Busey, this request was granted.

SALE OF PHARMACY LOTS A request from the Comptroller that the following resolution be adopted: Whereas it has been agreed that the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois shall sell to Lizzie Abazaris for the sum of $1,300 the following described real estate, to-wit: Lots four (4) and five (5) in Block five (5) of McBride, Spencer, and Underwood's subdivision of that part of the East }4 of the North West quarter of Sec. one (1), Township thirty-eight (38), North, Range thirteen (13), East of the Third Principal Meridian, lying South of Archer Road in Cook County, Illinois. RESOLVED, that the President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois be and are hereby authorized and directed to execute a warranty deed to Lizzie Abazaris, conveying the above described real estate, and to assign to Lizzie Abazaris title guaranty policy No. 598225 of the Chicago Title and Trust Company covering the said property, and to deliver the same to Lizzie Abazaris on her paying the consideration, the sum of $1,300. On motion of Mr. Noble, this resolution was unanimously adopted.

APPROVAL. OF SPECIAL. ASSESSMENTS IN CHICAGO (11) The Comptroller sends a schedule of special assessments made against property belonging to the University in Chicago, as follows: Tract No. Address and Description Amount Assessed 95 701-3-S South Wood Street, School of Pharmacy $ 160 80 95A 707-9-11 South Wood Street, School of Pharmacy 95B 713-17-19 South Wood Street, School of Pharmacy 96 Congress, Ogden, Harrison, and Honore Sts 213 60 Medical and Dental Property 560 00 105 721 & 725 South Wood Street, Institute of Juvenile Research 68 po 106 1756-58 West Polk Street—Tenant Property. 40 00 113 720 South Hermitage Avenue (Vacant Lot) 20 00 Total $1 062 40 I recommend that the sum of $ 1,062.40 be appropriated from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to pay these assessments.

On motion of Mr. Noble, this recommendation was approved. The appropriation was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Noble; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Small, Mr. Trimble.
