The Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University.

(i) CAHOKIA MOUNDS A preliminary report on the exploration of the Cahokia Indian mounds.

This report was received for record.

DEATH O F MRS. DONALD MCINTOSH (2) A report of the death of Mrs. Donald Mcintosh which occurred on February 3, 1922.

This report was received for record.

GRADUATE SCHOOL FELLOWSHIPS (3) A recommendation that the usual appropriation of #25,000 be made for Graduate School Fellowships and Scholarships for the year 1922-23, stipends to be determined and assigned on recommendation of the Executive Faculty and the Dean of the Graduate School and the approval of the President.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, this appropriation was made. The vote was as follows: Aye, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Noble, Mr. Trimble; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Small.

U N U S E D SALARY I T E M S (4) A recommendation that $40,000 of the amount appropriated for salaries in the various departments be transferred to the Reserve and Contingent fund.

On motion of Mr. Trimble, this transfer was made.

MISCELLANEOUS APPROPRIATIONS (5) A recommendation that the following appropriations be made from the Reserve and Contingent fund: 1. University library, for books #10,000 2. Medical library, for books 6,000 3. Cahokia exploration and publication 3,500 4. Physical Plant Extension 15,000 5. Alumni Records, salaries1 1,800 6. Alumni Quarterly 1,000 7. Agricultural inquiry and publication 2,000 8. College Expenses and Equipment (to be apportioned by the President) 15,000 Total #54,300

On motion of Mr. Trimble, these appropriations were made. The vote was as follows: Aye, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Noble, Mr. Trimble; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Small.

STRAIGHTENING FIRST S T R E E T ROAD (6) A request from Mr. F. C. Feutz, District Engineer, of the State Department of Public Works and Buildings for the approval of the plans to straighten the highway which is the prolongation of First Street, Champaign, and which runs through University property in Section 24, Township 19 North, Range 8 East.

On motion of Mr. Trimble, this matter was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with power to act.

*0f this amount, $560 is to reimburse the Alumni Association for expenditures for clerical and stenographic services already authorized and made.
