6. That the head of the department with which the advisory committee is to render service be responsible for making these nominations, transmitting them through the office of the Dean and Director at the time of recommendations for annual appointments, and that service begin on September 1, the same as with the members of the faculty.

On motion of Mr. Trimble, these recommendations were adopted.

CLASSIFICATION OF ASSISTANTS

(20) A recommendation that the following schedule covering the amount of work the assistants of different grades of pay should give the University and the amount of graduate work to be allowed, be adopted: Title Assistant (full-time) Assistant (half-time) Assistant (quarter-time) Lab. On motion of Mrs. Evans, these regulations were adopted.

(21) In order to provide for the signing of the Secretary's name on vouchers and warrants during the absence of certain University officials on their vacations, I recommend the adoption of the following resolution: Resolved that Mr. H. E. Cunningham, Secretary of the Board of Trustees, be given authority to authorize Mr. F. H. Beach, Auditor in the Business Office, to sign his name as Secretary of the Board of Trustees to warrants and vouchers, during his absence on account of vacation in the summer of 1921, provided that Mr. Beach shall not be authorized to sign the names of both the President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees to the same voucher or warrant.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, this resolution was adopted.

COST O F M I L I T A R Y INSTRUCTION

(22) A report prepared by Major T. J. Camp, Acting Professor of Military Science and Tactics, showing the average yearly cost per student to the government for the students enrolled in the R. O. T. C. at the University of Illinois. 1. Class of Units: Senior Infantry, Cavalry, Field Artillery, Signal Corps, Engineers, and Air Service.

J In the case of courses which require a large amount of outside work upon papers, for example, rhetoric, or intensive laboratory work with full sections, as in chemistry or zoology, this maximum should be correspondingly reduced as determined in each case by the Dean.
