BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[April 12,

The Y. M. C. A, organization has not been very successful in the conduct of this phase of its work. I am not at all sure that the University can do any better. But I think it is really worth while trying an experiment of this sort to see what we may be able to do. The experiment thus far has not been very successful but there are some signs that it may turn out in the next two months to be more successful than during the last three. I am presenting a financial statement from the Comptroller which explains itself. April 3,1919 President Edmund J. James, University of Illinois

M Y DEAR PRESIDENT JAMES:

For your information I enclose herewith a financial statement of the University Y Inn, Cafeteria, and Lunch Room, for the three months, January to March, inclusive. From this you will observe that a total deficit in operations amounting to $2,032.87 has resulted. The relative results for the three successive months, for both the Dormitory and the Cafeteria and Lunch Room, are shown below: MONTHLY DEFICIT IN OPERATIONS Cafeteria and Lunch Room 1,027.53 82.75 174.41

January February March Total Deficit

Dormitory 107.38 310.00 330.80

Total 1,134.91 392.75 505.21 2,032.87

Cordially yours,

LLOYD MOREY

The action of the President in making this experiment was approved.
