You will be pleased to learn that Dr. Quine has donated to the University Library between three hundred and fifty and four hundred volumes from his private library, about half of which will be desirable additions to our collection, representing a cash value of over five hundred dollars. S U M M E R C O U R S E S IN A G R I C U L T U R E AND H O M E E C O N O M I C S (56) A letter from Dean Charters as to a short course in Home Economics and in Agriculture in cooperation with the Board of Vocational Education. March 8, 1919 President. E J. James

M Y DEAR PRESIDENT JAMES: .

I write concerning the short course in home economics for college teachers and state supervisors. 1 have received assurance from the Federal Department that they will detail some of their people to us for part of the time and that they will advise teachers in normal schools, colleges, and high schools who are looking forward to doing college teaching or supervising, that Illinois is offering such courses this summer. The course will be six weeks long and the work will be divided into a number of units, about twelve or fourteen in all. These units are selected upon the basis of problems which supervisors and practise teachers have to meet. For teachers of these courses we shall need to use some of our own people who will be on the ground this summer, Miss Richardson or Miss Stanley from the Federal Board, possibly Miss Davis, from t}ie State Department; and some additional help for a week or two each by supervisors in surrounding states who are especially well equipped for handling individual units.
