P A Y M E N T O F MEN D E T A I L E D F O R HOSPITAL, D U T Y (2) A request for authority to pay certain students who were detailed for hospital duty in the S. A. T. C. altho they had not been inducted into that organization and were not later inducted. These men lost all opportunity to carry on their work as students, they performed necessary service for the University, and they cannot be paid by the Government because they were not inducted. It is proposed to pay them at the rate of one dollar a day.

On motion of Mrs. Busey, the President of the University was authorized to pay such men at the rate of one dollar a day, up to a total of $2,500. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mt. Taggart, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Carr, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett.

A M E R I C A N U N I V E R S I T Y UNION IN E U R O P E (3) A request from the American University Union in Europe for the payment of the annual fee of $500 toward its support. The University of Illinois with some two hundred other American institutions has joined in the support of this American University Union, whose object it is to help care for our American college and university graduates who are in Europe and connected with the Great War.

. On motion of Mr. Blair, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mi\Hoit,Mr.Taggart,Mr. Trimble,Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; no, none; absent, Mr. Carr, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett.

Under an Act of Congress, approved August 10, 1917, a bond is required in order to secure permission to use distilled spirits for other than beverage purposes.
